Friday Feature: 10/6/2017 RP on EiF!

Plopping down heavily into a chair in her work area, the station manager leaned forward to fold her arms on her desk and laying her head on them. A sigh escaped her lips while recounting the events of the past few days. It all started with the arrival of a quirky droid who apparently was, and still is, looking for teams to help protect the shipments of his master’s cargo. In an of itself, that wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for a space station such as Port Jato. Jato was really more of a shadowport, turning a blind eye to illicit activities, clandestine meetings, and the like. Heck she was working to create some private meeting areas to facilitate such activities, including sections where special cargo could be safely secured.

Shortly after the droid’s arrival and solicitation of her customers for escort and protection services,  the group out to harm the droid arrived in the Mistell demanding the droid be turned over to them. The type of clients she catered to didn’t take too well to being interrupted with a possible job being negotiated and the firefight broke out. A fire fight! Dammit! Not on her station! It was one of the few things Halyn made sure she understood, keep the activities to things that wouldn’t destroy his station!

“Meh,” she muttered into her arms, “Gotta get the new security team trained and settled. Get the new meeting rooms set up too, maybe that would have kept the scum away from the business activities being conducted.” A little bump against the blue hair covering her head startled her. Looking up she found a durni had landed on her desk. “Gah, seriously? My desk now?” Looking about she noticed several of the durni’s had escaped their pen and were nibbling on the fruits and veggies she was attempting to grow.

“Ugh! I’ll deal with you bunch later, right now, I have to get some secure rooms set up.”

Empire in Flames successfully launched its first roleplay campaign last Sunday. The story continues on Sunday with the droid, Custos, looking for teams of 3 to help escort his master’s cargo and keep it from being stolen while enroute to it’s destination. Two teams have formed so far and more are encouraged to be created. Each team will split a 1 million credit payment for services rendered at the successful completion of the campaign.

The staff of EiF are all avid roleplayers themselves and we are excited about bring the campaign to our community.  While EiF does not consider itself a roleplay server, it does think of itself as a friendly roleplay environment and it attracts a large number of people interested in roleplaying.

Port Jato is developing into a joint effort between the staff and community. The nearly completed arena has been decorated entirely by a member of our Community, Doreen. She has also set up Megan’s work area, complete with a test kitchen, working stills for her custom brews, and a garden. Other players are creating other sections of Jato, such as our arrival checkpoint and medical center.  (see this Friday Feature to learn more about features and plans for Port Jato http://www.empireinflames.com/?p=474 .)

Join us Sundays at 9:00 PM EST for more in the ongoing story. The storyteller is our very own Halyn, who has created a lot of epic story content not only in SWG Live on Starsider, but is also a published author with two books to his credit and has had his work included in a complilation with other authors.

Friday Feature 8/11/2017: Old Content – Race Tracks!

While the EiF developers do have new content soooo close to being released, I have started spending time checking out the old content. One of the features from live I never participated in was the Old Swoop Tracks! I found this information on the Internet archive the Way Back Machine. Now that name alone is a flashback from my childhood days!

Enjoy! EiF might just have a day at the races planned soon(TM)!

Old Swoop Tracks

“First things first, swoop racing is illegal. The Emperor doesn’t allow for formal competitions. Get it out of your head right now that your holo-picture will be idolized by little beings across the galaxy. There ain’t no official races. Now for a fee, I could be inclined to give you the waypoints of some old tracks that us swoopers used to run. Some former champ left a protocol droid behind at his favorite tracks, you know, just as an historic marker. If they ain’t rusted out, I think they still record times. I’ve even heard of some small time chumps using those droids as official time keepers for their own racing events. Some don’t even use swoops, they run it or ride animals around it. But I ain’t part of that. No sir, the Empire treats me too well to want to break the law. “
– Former Professional Swoop Racer

Agrilat Swamp Circuit – Start at Corellia 1680 4700

Star Wars Galaxies now feature the following race tracks: Old Mos Espa Arena CircuitAgrilat Swamp Circuit and the Keren Street Race. The Old Mos Espa Circuit will allow you to relive the exciting pod race featured in Episode I. The Agrilat Swamp Circuit takes you into and through dangerous Agrilat Swamps on a race reminiscent of the one between Han Solo and Dengar. Finally, the Keren Street Race challenges your skills by leading you through the narrow lanes and tight bridges in the city of Keren.

To begin, simply converse with the race protocol droid. If you have never raced that track before you will be given some options to describe how the race is run or to start a race. When a race is started, you are given a waypoint to the first leg of the race. Jump on your vehicle or mount or start running as fast as you can. Upon reaching that waypoint, you are given a waypoint to the next leg of the race and receive a message listing your current lap time.

Upon completing the entire circuit you are given your total time. If you have beaten your personal best time, you receive graphical text for all to see. Conversing with the protocol droid again will register your last time with it and it will announce the time registered for all to see. If you beat the current daily record, you will receive a badge appropriate to that track.

Old Mos Espa Arena Circuit – Start at Tatooine 2380 5000

If you have already completed the circuit, you can speak with the protocol droid again to do one of the following:

·  Race the circuit again.

·  See who the current record holder of the day is.

·  Have the droid announce your personal best time in spatial chat for bragging rights.

·  Reset your personal best time.

Please note that currently you cannot adjust the speed on vehicles. Getting the best time will require careful negotiation of terrain, avoidance of obstacles and enemies and planning at least one leg ahead to hit the turns from the best angle. Remember to use the SHIFT key (by default) to slow down around tight corners.

The true purpose of the tracks is to assist players in running their own races. See the Events Team’s Host a Race for suggestions on how to run your own player event race and check the Player Events Schedule to see if there are any races being held this week.

Keren Street Race – Start at Naboo 1396 2686

Swoop Racing in the Galactic Empire

As old as the Old Republic, swoop racing has been around since the second swoop was built. Swoop racing is a very dangerous sport. So dangerous in fact, that swoop racing was only allowed on sanctioned racing tracks and illegal outside of all official tracks and arenas. This high speed sport was originally kept under tight controls because it was as dangerous to bystanders as it was to the racers themselves. At over 400 miles per hour, an unsuspecting street merchant or innocent bystander exiting their homes was at lethal risk simply by being in the right place at the wrong time.

After the rise of the Empire, the Emperor was more interested in imprisoning the fringe and criminal elements whose vehicle of choice were swoops and also making sure to take these powerful vehicles away from anyone who could oppose him. Swoop racing was made illegal and used as a tool to imprison all of the best swoop racers to jail racing criminals and insure there would be no one to teach the best techniques to a new generation of racers.

– Former Professional Swoop Racer

Swoop Racing
From starwars.com

At the heart of swoop racing is a simple vehicle called a swoop. Designed for one passenger, the vehicle is basically an engine with a seat. To drive the swoop at speeds that can exceed 400 miles per hour, the driver is equipped with kneepads, footpads and handgrips that control speed, steering and altitude. To enhance the handling, the driver must carefully shift his weight in the seat. This vehicle has no armor, no weapons and no crash protection, but it does have a seat belt.

Swoop racing is a popular sport that takes place in huge domed arenas called swoop tracks. The arenas hold tens of thousands of spectators. The race is made up of circular flight paths and obstacle courses designed to challenge the agility and skill of each driver.

The Return of Swoop Racing

Since the discovery of the first illegal swoop tracks earlier this year, swoop racing has begun to emerge. Too small to be cared about by the Emperor as he plans his attacks on the Rebellion, swoopers have used the modules from the original race droids to create new race droids and new tracks. Here are the latest reports on the new swoop tracks:

Lok Marathon

“This is one of the longest and most arduous races in the galaxy. Don’t bother with it unless you have the time and stamina. The Empire doesn’t come here often, so it gets a lot of use from swoopers looking for an illegal race. The trouble is most of them do not complete the marathon. Beware of dangerous beasts, pirates, confusing mazes and a very large and active volcano.”

Weaving through the streets desperately trying to lose his pursuers he made it out of the city. Unfortunately his escape was cut short due to a fatal collision with a flesh eating chuba. Since that time many have made the run in his memory. Eventually it became a semi-formal track for a thoroughly illegal street race.”

Friday Feature 8/4/2017 – Badges

((sorry for the day late! My family arrived in town and chaos ensued!)

One of the fun features of Star Wars Galaxies is the Badges which can be earned. Blue Pyros and Kelta updated the list of badges to make it current for EiF. I pulled the initial information from here.

My guild likes to do activities as a group and on a few occasions we’ve gone out and worked on the Exploration badges for a particular planet. Badge hunting is a great group activity. It’s also a wonderful way to scout for RP locations while racking up those badges!

Ohhh! While editing and formatting this information, I realized the badges from Taanab are not here! I’m not going to list them now, but I challenge you to go out to Taanab, find them, and post them here!

Q. What are Badges?
A.
Badges are essentially just lines of text that appear in your Character Information Sheet(Ctrl+C, and Ctrl+P (this might be different, depending on keybindings)). Badges are earned by doing various tasks in EiF. These tasks can be as simple as visiting a location, or as challenging as fighting through one of the toughest dungeons in the game.

Q. Is EiF going to add anymore badges, or is this it?
A.
Of COURSE they’re going to add new badges!

Friday Feature 6/16/2017 – Player Cities!

It’s been one month and 12 days since the official launch of an Empire in Flames! During this short period of time, we’ve experienced tremendous growth. Roleplaying is getting started and various venues are being created by the players. EiF launched with a new player starter city outside of Coronet on Corellia. Broken Bridge was a great place to begin adventures and get the feel of the game again and EiF’s spin on it. As with any SWG environment and especially one filled with a majority of roleplayers, player cities started popping up within a couple weeks. Many now have their shuttleports and welcome visitors to their delightful towns and cities.

EiF asked the mayors of the cities to share some information with the community to give players an opportunity to find the city which will meet their own characters’ needs. Below find information about some of the cities in an Empire in Flames. A complete list of all cities and their mayors is at the end of this Friday Feature.

City name: Fort Vigilance

Mayor: Tessick Fenix

IC: We’re protecting the core from the dirty republic scum.

OOC: We have a guild running out of the city. Imperial Task Force Aurek (ITFA) which is a stormtrooper division, open to only human combat characters. The Fort though is a safe haven for all loyal imperial citizens and we accept crafters, entertainers, and neutral characters. I’d like to see a bustling metropolis where business and RP can thrive. I am offering free houses to all new citizens and over a month in free maintenance.

Also I am levying no taxes on the citizens.

City Name: Cioral Station

Current Mayor Name: Sabosan’ola’nae

IC description: Nestled between the mountains and protected from the harsh storms of the sand dunes of Tatooine sits a modest outpost. Cioral Station, funded and operated in part by the Csaplar Ruling Family’s agriworld colonial affairs program, is an independent colony outpost situated within the north-western mountains of Tatooine. Day-to-day operations focus mainly on the upkeep of the facilities, including the local bazaar, power generators, and various homesteads. Despite staking no claim in the Galactic Civil War as of yet, the presence of an Imperial base situated next to one of Tatooine’s rare oasis has not gone unnoticed by the few residents. Within the outpost, there are rumours and rumblings of a seedy underbelly taking shape. For now, though, too much energy is being spent on the foundations of the humble station to worry about galactic matters such as a “war.” The station is looking to expand and secure a foothold over the area and recruitment efforts are underway for more local colonists. The city currently offers an open bazaar, where residents can sell their goods in small shops that they can decorate to their desire while providing a central area for commerce. Future developments include a cantina, communal crafting hall, and medical center.

OOC intent: Cioral Station is new and ready to be shaped. We have an organic, but compact layout in mind to keep the frontier, outpost style as immersive as possible. We’d like to foster a close city community with the idea that, just as a real outpost, our work together can make us independent. In that regard, we’re actively seeking doctors, entertainers, rangers, crafters, merchants, and all other types of characters who are interested in a tight-knit community feel for both OOC and IC. The city is neutral in the GCW at this time, but that does not mean that it will stay that way and while there is no overarching plot to the city just yet, we are very open to just letting that develop as it comes. We’re looking for anyone interested in light, but tight-knit frontier/outpost RP. This can include working and managing within the city, but also in hunting parties on the outskirts for supplies and resources to later be sold in-town. We’re looking for players that are interested in helping the outpost grow and keep it maintained, which can be through various means. While cities cost a lot to run and are a community effort, this is meant to be a casual and fun community – no one will be expected to do anything other than contribute in their own way in a positive manner. If you have questions or are interested, feel free to respond here, send a tell to Sabosan’ola’nae in-game (be aware that I AFK survey while at work), or speak with me either in the Cioral Station discord (https://discord.gg/bBhzyyp) or privately (Blueberry#0459).

City Name: Gnorton

Mayor: Doreen Green

IC Description: Gnorton is a beautiful villiage located on Naboo, in the river washed lowlands southwest of Keren. Surrounded by scenic mountains and lovely riverfront property, it is hard to find a prettier place on Naboo. We welcome anyone who would like to join us, and offer no discrimination to anyone seeking a home in our gorgeous little corner of the galaxy.

Gnorton is a city about freedom. We offer an environment free of criticism no matter what individuals choose to do with their lives. You want to juggle kaadu’s? Hug rancors? Wear your underpants on the outside? As long as you don’t bother anyone, you are welcome in Gnorton. We are a peaceful and receptive city that wishes only the most judgement-free environment for its constituents.

OOC Intent: We are true to our words when we say we are about freedom, as there will never be a faction terminal or city-sponsored factional event (if devs take things out of our hands, we can’t police everything!) We intend to stay neutral, making it possible for players to have a community seperate from the ongoing conflict between the New Republic and the Empire. It’s okay to have friends on both sides! You’re imperial? Fine, just don’t bring your decorations and contentions within city limits. You’re organizing for the New Republic? Good for you! We have no interest in being the venue for your next demonstration. The idea is to respect everyone and leave the rest at the proverbial door. If someone leaves their hat on, just leave it be. We are looking to grow into a research center. We are capable of placing a shuttleport and only lack the citizens. We will also never, ever, EVER levy taxes for any reason. Donations to the treasury however, will never be refused. Any citizen is able to contribute to the city treasury via the city management terminal in city hall. And anyone can place any type of house that can be placed on Naboo.

City Name: “Cleveland” – This is mostly a temporary name placeholder

Current Mayor Name: Morrioghain, emphasis on “temporary”

IC description: “Cleveland is a manufacturing and commerce city on Dantooine where the best products are produced and sold. The city is protected by an Imperial detachment but the Empire does not influence the every day life if the citizens. It is rumored that the city’s Imperial commander has seen the error in the previous regime’s anti-alien mentality and has waned on such scrutiny, making alien soldiers in the ranks a welcoming thing. The last rumor is that of a mysterious group of force-wielding “witches” that found their way off Dathomir have settled in the city, making it a refuge in a galaxy so foreign to their lifestyle.”

OOC intent: Manufacturing and Commerce, slight imperial alignment and a focus on “Witches of Dathomir”
