Importance Notice – Forums Update

Greetings!

In the near future, we will be transitioning from our current forums to a new platform. This will give the EiF forums a more updated look, revamped sub-forums, and allow for greater functionality. Please be aware however that during this process, we will not be migrating any player posts from the current boards.

What does this mean for you? If you have something posted that you would like to keep, be sure to copy and save it for your personal archives. We will update when we have a more solidified date for the transition, so stay tuned!

EiF Patch Notes 11/24/2021

Here are the notes for today’s patch on 11/24/2021

General

  • Upstream merges from SWGEmu.
  • Art updates for several basic SWG swords.
  • Entertainer/Musician instruments can now be moved to a character’s back with /shoulder. (This command is also bindable in keymap, but by default does not have a key.)
  • New characters, on creation, now have at least one skill to accompany their starting profession.
  • Fixed several broken mounts.
  • Fixed TCG bunker ceiling shader.

Profession Updates

Jedi

  • Force abilities now require mind to execute. Mind is not consumed when a Force ability is used, but a Jedi must have enough mind available to use the Force. Different abilities require different amounts of mind to execute.
  • Crackling energy buff now has a buff icon indicating how many stacks of crackling energy the player has.
  • Crackling energy buff now lasts six seconds and refreshes when another lightning ability is cast.
  • Force Lightning Blast is now available at master Jedi for a wide-cone AOE with high damage, but requires and consumes five crackling energy buffs.
  • Force attacks are now much stronger, but have a PvP damage reduction.
  • Fixes made to multiple Force abilities which were no longer working correctly due to upstream SWGEmu merges.
  • States added to several Force attacks.
  • Jedi lightsabers now execute a Ricochet on a successful defensive roll. While lightsabers still require appropriate secondary defense (for example, Block on a polearm lightsaber), the actual defensive reaction is now Ricochet (which works analogously to Counterattack).

Commando

  • Commando flame and acid specials now properly DoT, including wounding and battle fatigue.

Doctor

  • Doctor specials now use the combat queue

Misc

  • Player-to-player holocomm is now available. When using /holocomm, a new option will now appear to <Call Player>. If a player accepts an incoming holocomm, both players will be able to see a holographic simulacrum of the other player and speak to each other via spatial chat.

EiF Patch Notes 10/15/21

Here are the notes for the game patch released 10/15/2021

Content

  • New Halloween heroic: The Temple of Exar Kun!
    • Reports of disappearing archeologists have begun to swirl around a dark temple on Yavin 4. Others whisper about a shade haunting the temple – a shade that must be confronted before the temple’s depths can be plumbed.
    • Three players are required to begin the instance. The instance can be run once per day, per character.
    • The Temple of Exar Kun will only be accessible for a short time for the Halloween season. Conquer it to acquire unique, limited-time weapons and items!
    • New Exchange location added. (Mina)

Fixes/Changes

  • SWGEmu fixes, including combat now ending appropriately.
  • Tweaked more system messages to remove leading spaces.
  • Multipassenger waypoints should be working again.
  • All trainers are now visible on the planetary map, under appropriate categories.
  • Begun implementation of “utility” objects for new content development.

EiF Patch Notes – 06/15/2021

EiF Patch Notes – 06/15/2021

Jedi

  • Jedi specials now are all interrupted by being knocked down. No offensive or defensive powers will work while KD.
  • Jedi specials should now be usable while berserk.
  • Krayt pearl drops have been reworked. Various krayt dragons will drop different levels of pearls. The overall chance of looting a pearl has been improved. (Demiurge)
  • Typo fixed in the Maul’s Vengeance crystal name.
  • Faction recruiters now have special Jedi loot. Master Jedi can talk to a faction recruiter – in person, not via holocomm – to access this special trove of relics.
  • Warfame vendors now have special Jedi loot. Master Jedi can talk to their factions’ quartermaster to access a special selection of Jedi goods.
    • Staff note from Demiurge – the warfame vendors’ pristine crystal purchase is potentially the best power crystal available in the game, with stats guaranteed to be high-end – however, there is no guarantee the crystal you receive will have the selection of stats you want. Purchase at your own risk.
    • Staff note from Halyn – we’re still looking into some issues with dark-side powers. This won’t be the last Jedi-related balance patch.

Combat

  • Tweaked 2-hand head hit 3, 2-hand spin attack 2, and polearm leg hit 3. (Demiurge)
  • Norulac Raiders on Taanab are no longer vulnerable to lightsabers.

UI

  • New login screen. (Abi)
  • New, much-improved and more stable animation added for holocomm and holocron. (Wefi and Borrie BoBaka)
  • Backend stability tweaks.

Wearables Overhaul

  • RIS chestplate now has additional hitpoints on newly-crafted armor. (Demiurge)
  • Clothing and armor slot selection has been overhauled.
  • Items whose slot descriptors have changed will be unequipped when you log in to prevent pre-nerf and bug issues.
  • In general, clothes are worn close to the skin. Armor is worn over clothes. A jacket, robe, vest, or cape can be worn over armor.
  • Armor boots cannot be worn with cloth boots.
  • Armor gloves cannot be worn with cloth gloves.
  • Armor leggings can be worn with pants or skirts.
  • Open-face helmets will allow you to equip eyewear
  • Wookiee and Ithorian wearables have not been touched with this update. Once the EiF team has worked out any remaining issues with wearables for regular races, Halyn will do a pass on Wookiees and Ithorians as well.
  • Occlusion has been reworked. In general, an item at a higher occlusion level will “obscure” an item at a lower occlusion level, to the extent SOE built the art to be occluded.
  • General occlusion levels are as follows:
    0 – skin
1 – concealable armor (not yet available – coming soon)
2 – pants, shirts, cloth bodysuits
    3 – armor bodysuits
    4 – footwear, vests
    5 – skirts, dresses
    6 – armor
    7 – jackets & robes
  • *The #solicitedfeedback channel will be used for all feedback on occlusion issues, including bugs for wearability. The EiF team has altered some 2000 files for this project, and some adjustments will likely be required.

Friday Feature: The Force

“It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.”
-Obi-Wan Kenobi to Luke Skywalker on the nature of the Force

Obi-Wan Kenobi | StarWars.com

May 4th, 2021, the EiF development team finally released the Jedi unlock to the EiF community. Two weeks and three visions later, the first players unlocked Jedi with a single system message going out to all online players: There is a tremor in the Force.

Players have begun to learn the ways of the Force from their holocrons – gatekeepers modeled on the venerable Jedi Master Yoda and the fearsome Sith Lord Darth Vader, who trickle knowledge out only slowly, allowing their students time to ponder the nature of the Force…and the dark side.

Jedi on EiF is built as an experience unlike any other – quests, meditation, travel, conversation, and only occasional combat in place of grinding massive quantities of XP. But some mysteries need to be unveiled – if only a little – to help new player Jedi understand their place in the galaxy.

“Remember, a Jedi’s strength flows from the Force. But beware: anger, fear, aggression – the dark side, are they.”
-Yoda’s final lesson to Luke Skywalker

A critical element of Jedi on Empire in Flames is “alignment.” It’s a nebulous thing to players – there’s no stat to check on a character sheet. There’s no Jedi trainer who will tell you exactly how in tune you are with the Force or its dark side. This was a deliberate design decision – the Force shouldn’t be entirely quantifiable to the player (even if it does have hard numbers behind-the-scene).

However, meditating on the Force can give you an idea of your alignment – while a message like “Your anger gives you strength” shows you starting down a dark path, “You feel the Force flowing through you” shows you becoming more Jedi-like.

Alignment has a critical effect on some of a player’s powers. While some powers can be used by either dark or light without penalty or boon – such as mind tricks – others benefit greatly (or are penalized heavily!) by appropriate alignments.

As a rule of thumb, generally defensive powers – such as Force healing or absorption – benefit from Jedi-like alignments, while offensive powers – like Force choke or lightning – are more befitting Sith-like alignments.

“My mentor taught me everything about the Force – even the nature of the dark side.”

Alignments are affected two ways.

The first is by the decisions a player makes while questing as a Jedi student. These decisions begin from the moment of opening a holocron, light or dark, which affects a character’s starting alignment. From there, there are opportunities to affect alignment with many (but not all) of the quests. For example, asking Rostek Horn for Nejaa Halcyon’s journal while gathering information to build your lightsaber may earn you positive alignment – but forcing Rostek to turn over the information by threatening to report him to the Empire is not very Jedi-like. About half of the quests for leveling Jedi will give alignment changes.

The second way to affect a character’s alignment is simply using powers. Saying the “nice” things in a quest while running around choking enemies to death will quickly find a character deep in the dark side, with those light-side powers becoming weaker and more distant. Actions become important – and mean that no alignment is permanent.

“May the Force be with you.”
-VariousGood bye old friend, may the force be with you | Obi-Wan Kenobi | Revenge of the Sith - YouTube

Ultimately, your decisions determine your character’s reality. Will you take the path of a Jedi Knight to heal the galaxy? Will you take up your lightsaber to strike down your foes and rule the battlefield as befitting a Sith initiate? The decision is yours – and remember: no one is beyond redemption…or corruption.
